Simplified Music Player 2.0
I have had both Spotify and Apple Music over the years and one thing that I think Spotify does better than Apple Music is the queue system. Well, in the iOS 18 Beta, I noticed that Apple was trying to implement the Spotify queue system. Well, it took Apple a bunch of tries and almost 2 months and their system was still bugged so I decided to fix it in 2 days and added it to the music player that I originally worked on. After that I decided to practice my UI design skills and here is the result.
Put On: Music Trivia
Inspired by IPlayYouListen
Music is a common theme in my apps, and this one is no different. "Put On" is a trivia game centered around music. Users are shown a pixelated album cover (for copyright reasons), the album title, and its release year. Their goal is to guess the name of the artist. Users are given one puzzle a day (similar to how Wordle and Connections work), and each puzzle contains four albums from four different artists.
Simplified Music Player
This music player app is powered by Apple Music using MusicKit, offering a unique queue system (Spotify’s queue system) that sets it apart from the regular Apple Music app. As an avid music listener, I developed this app to cater to my specific preferences and provide a personalized listening experience. Despite facing a few hurdles that I couldn't overcome, this project fueled my passion for music and technology.
Elo: Sports Companion
This app is a unique sports social media platform designed to help users find and share betting ideas for any game. Developed over an intensive 3 to 4 month period, this project was a labor of love, requiring 12 hour days of dedication. I started with a base model MacBook Air, learning Swift and Xcode from scratch. Initially, I attempted to create my own backend using Python and FastAPI, but later transitioned to Firebase for its ease of use and cloud-based capabilities. Although the app didn't gain the traction I hoped for, I'm proud of the time and effort invested in learning and creating it.
Four Square: Reaction Game
This fun and straightforward app is designed to test and improve reaction times. Inspired by a game my brother created for Android, I developed this iOS version so he could enjoy it on his iPhone. The game features four squares, and the goal is to tap the filled square as many times as possible to increase your score. The game ends when time expires or if you tap the wrong square. Built with Swift and Xcode, this project was a playful exercise in coding, and I implemented an arcade-style leaderboard using Firebase to enhance the competitive experience.
IPlayYouListen
I am a big fan of music and wanted to show off how much time I’ve wasted listening to random songs (I maxed out the Spotify library when the limit was 10,000). In order to show off, I decided to make a song of the day app that would show a user a song that they might not know across quite a few different genres. Unfortunately, the app is not allowed to be on the app store because the cover art is copyright protected. I have a few choices now:
Cry
Make a fake cover art to how on my app (this looks ugly no thanks)
Change the cover art for submission and then change it back after I get approved (don’t want to lost my developer account so no thanks)
Contact record labels to get permission
Quit
Believe it or not, I am actually going to try to contact the record labels, but I assume that I won’t get a response (I’ve tried to contact companies for permission before). If I get no response then I guess I’m going to have to do options one and five.
6/7/2024 Update: I am doing options one and five.
